The day the Torch came to town

Today the Olympic Torch came to town.

It was a glorious warm summer's afternoon with brass bands, men on stilts, school children parading, creative art displayed, a fly past and the torch passing down the High Street. The atmosphere was electric and I was glad that I took the time to go.

  4. I'm toying with the idea of going to see it when it comes through Oxford. I'm a bit anti olympics but my other half was in the North East when it came through and he said the atmosphere was amazing.

  11. I remember when the Olympic torch came through my town for the 2010 Winter Olympic in Vancouver. It travelled throughout Canada and my province -British Columbia- and there was a contest you could enter to have an opportunity to be a torch bearer. Problem was there was no guarantee it would anywhere near where you live. It was very exciting and great atmosphere. They closed a few blocks in out town and had a stage set up for presentations and entertainment. A fun night and nice to see a lot of people out for it. It was interesting to see that they had a crew of people that went ahead of the actual torch bearer and handed out souvenirs, flags and other stuff getting the crowd pumped and ready for when the torch actually passed by. Looked good in photos that's for sure.
