My final set of orphan blocks that were hanging around, were a couple of +&x ones that I had made for Emily in our Bee a Brit Stingy hive. If you look closely you will see that they were not that perfect so I just put them down as practise blocks. In my bid to tidy up my sewing area I decided that I would make them into a bag that was big enough to fit my iPad into. This is what I came up with.
+ & X zippy bag |
The blocks aren't perfect but they have made a roomy bag that I just love. Please note the lining is another man's shirt (Came via a friend as her hubby was having a clear out - yay!).
Last night I went along to the 'Stitching it Together' evening at Tanya's and met up with Moria, Trudy and of course Tanya. We were going to do a bit of QAGY and I was meant to be showing everyone how to do it. I took this job seriously and made a couple of samples up and even did a handout!
QAYG samples |
We were so busy chatting, laughing, drinking tea and eating cake that we really didn't get started. It was a fun evening despite our lack of sewing!
I have also been pinging emails back and forth to this lovely lady. We have challenged each other to get on with our FAL list. I know that I have been avoiding mine! So here is a photo to prove that I have started on a long abandoned quilt. I decided to quilt this in straight (ish) lines across the quilt and to date, I haven't got very far with it.
Getting down to business |
I have lugged my machine downstairs and set up in the dining room as the table is nice and big. I do hope that the boredom of going up and down this quilt won't get to me. Lets hope that the play on Radio 4 will be good today!!! Now I am off to find out!

I think your zippy bag is just adorable! Your quilt is so pretty too! Love the soft colors! When I get together to sew with my daughter or mom, not much sewing usually gets done but it's a lot of fun!!
ReplyDeleteOh you are a true teacher! What a shame you didn't get to put those samples to good use! Maybe next time! Love your ipad pouch, great way to use up orphan blocks (& shirts!). Jxo
ReplyDeleteOnce I have finished my Q1 FALs I will be joining you with a bit of QAYG - I have found a pattern in a book which is completely sashed so I think I can make it into a QAYG. Love your zippy bags!
ReplyDeleteI had a fab night Di and you did teach us what to do! How extraordinary :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorrry we didn't get the chance to sew anything..... your instructions and examples have not gone to waste, I have been having a go at QAYG this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteOk , novice question - what's QAYG - I'm taking a guess at quilt as you go? But I'm stuck on FAL? So much lingo to learn! X
ReplyDeleteHow did you get on with the quilting? I think I need to time a visit to my brothers so that I can get over to one of the 'sewalongs'
ReplyDeleteLove your zippy bag!
ReplyDeleteWell done on getting on with your FAL list. I really need to get my skates on now and just do it. How much time have I got? Aargh!
Cool zippy bags, and love the quilt, I also hate straight line (or any) quilting, it's so tedious, hope it's not toooooooo painful! :o)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the straight lines.....did you know most libraries now let you download audio books for free!
ReplyDeleteoh how I wish I lived closer and could have been there last night.
ReplyDeletelove your QAYGing

Sounds like a fun evening. Your ipad pouch is great and I love that you are making such fantastic use of your orphan blocks. Tell me this - do you blog from your ipad? I'm interested to know because I've heard rumours that you can't use blogger well/at all and I'd love to be able to blog on the hop.
ReplyDeleteYour evening sounds fantastic! I love your pouch. I empathise about the monotony of straight line quilting but it does look good you have to admit??? I will be doing some today.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt, and such a sunny spot to be sewing. I love straight line quilting because I can relax and think or listen to music or a book or tv. Wonderful that you are getting back to the FAL too.
ReplyDeleteI find the kitchen table the best too for quilting and when doing straight lines I do ten at a time and get up for a stretch and walk around then go back to do another 10. it will worth it in the end.
