In The Frame Purse Swap

I am in the Frame Purse Swap that has been organised by Nicky and Helen. I entered this swap after returning from the FQ Retreat on a high and with a little egging on by Nicky (she is very mischievous). Once I had entered, I then panicked! I really had no idea as to how to make a frame purse and I didn't know where to start. I am really fortunate that I live within 40 minutes of Trudi, and so when we met up 10 days ago, Trudi took me through the construction process. More importantly she explained the mystery of how to use the glue without spreading it everywhere! This latter point was really important to me as I was beginning to dread getting the glue out! Armed with this knowledge, I put an order into U-Handbag (they have super fast delivery). I have thoroughly stalked my partner but she is a little bit quiet. I have met her at the FQ Retreat, so I thought that I would take a punt on making this purse, using some 1950's retro fabric along with some linen.

The reaction on Flickr was mixed and I did feel a bit deflated. So I have had another go but I have played it safe this time. I am pretty sure that my partner will like the mix of Summerville, Pezzy and linen.

So there it is... swap item completed. I do feel a little stressed about the whole process. I just don't know whether my partner will like it. I am going to make a little something to pop into the purse before it goes into the post at the end of July. I do have two frames left and so I just might get that glue out again and make a couple of Christmas presents.

Of course some people don't learn from their experiences and enter the Brit Quilt Swap Round 3 too. Now that is post for next week.... I am trying to get my ideas together for this one and I do have a germ of an idea!

  4. I liked both of your purses - but as you said you've met your partner at the retreat and she is a little bit quiet it rules me out!

I had a great idea or three for BQS3 but I am not so sure about any of them so will procrastinate a while longer!

  7. Wow - both those purses are fab, and really different. I like both of them. Try not to get too stressed about the swap - I remember just how anxious I got about my last swap, cos of the comments.... It ended up consumming too much of my energy!! I feel sure your partner will be delighted in the end, and just think, soon you will have a wonderful purse coming to you that someone has made especially for you x

  9. Panic not! You have stalked your partner, you know her likes and dislikes and your insticts will carry you through, I'm sure she will be happy with whichever purse you send :) Some are just quiet, and that's ok, she will be happy I feel sure :) x Look forward to seeing your BQS3 ideas - still need to plan mine, though I have a good nugget of an idea.

  10. Di, I love that first pouch - so feminine but grown up. So sorry to hear you were a bit deflated by flickr comments for the swap. I think that sometimes in the swaps we put ourselves under too much pressure to get it perfectly right. There are some you can't win, but I think if you've done your homework and made the effort to try to fit tastes your partner should be pleased. Having a quiet partner is hard, I know. Anyway, the second pouch is also lovely, so if you feel safer go with it and keep the other one to enjoy yourself!

  11. I think you know my feelings on these. I will quite happily be your secret partner, and I very slightly like the first one best- but as I was not at the retreat, I guess its not me (sigh). I know I would love either of these.
And, yes please, share that glue secret! I haven't done too badly with the glue, buut tips would be very much appreciated!

  17. I stress out at swaps too (just ask Helen) but am drawn to them despite that cos it makes me push the boundaries of what I would attempt and raises the bar! Sorry if I pushed you in Di!?? But I think you have done brilliantly with both purses! Sadly not everyone is chatty online for a variety of reasons but it is easy to miss one photo when lots are being posted - it does not mean that your partner will not adore her purse though! And yes you have one coming to you too!

  18. Aw Di both those purses are gorgeous and lots of fun! Your partner is really lucky, whichever one you send. I'm quieter than usual in the purse swap, but it's just because I've got loads on. Sometimes people can be a bit thoughtless in their comments. Don't let it get you down x

Please don't be deflated by comments on Flickr I am on my second swap and am astounded at some of what I read. I always try to be as positive as possible in my comments.
