Absent with leave

Hi
I have been a little absent from Blogland as we are in the middle of the holiday season. My Husband, younger son and myself are at New Wine in Newark this week. There 6,000+ people all camping out at the showground with minimal toilet and showering facilities, but with great teaching and worship, plus a little creative art on the side. Those of you who know me, will realise that I am not the camping type. So it is very fortunate that Newark is only 20 minutes from home, which means that I can have B&B at home each night! There are many campers who scoff at my inability to embrace the camping way of life however, they are always happy for me to do their washing and freeze their freezer blocks whilst I am at home!!! I guess I just don't get what is so great about camping!!!

I have been a little limited on what I can do on the sewing front due to our holidays. Fortunately, I have been able to do a little EPP and continue with the two projects from the Fat Quarterly Sewing Retreat.

Can you remember that I had started the Triangle City block?

Well it progressed to this..

I then appliquéd it to the background fabric and quilted around some of the seams.

I made a covered zipper opening...
Back of the Triangle City cushion
I am really happy with how this cushion worked out. I may well make another if I have free time on my next little jaunt away.

Here it is nestled with my other cushions on my sofa.

Next up on my 'to finish' list is to turn my Spring Carnival EPP that was started in another Fat Quarterly Sewing Retreat Class into another cushion.
This is as far as I have got… 6 more of these to make.

So if it rains this afternoon, I will be in a cold and leaky tent doing a bit EPP - ing!

Di x

  1. It sounds like the best sort of 'glamping'.... camping and a bath - ideal.... glad you are all having good holidays xxx

  4. Ooh that's lovely! I don't camp either. Closest I got was a so-called birthday present- stayed in a teepee after going dog sledding on that day we were hit by a mini tornado. The people we hired it from were very surprised we lasted the night. We ran out of fire wood, the door kept blowing open and I probably got 30 mins sleep and our toilet literally blew away. They had to re build the teepee as all the posts moved in by about 5cm over the course of the night!

  7. You are very kind if you are helping out the scoffing campers. Not everyone is designed for sleeping on the ground, that is why we have lovely beds. I hope you are having a relaxing time.

  9. Haha, you're hilarious on the camping front, i love that you're going home every night- i really don't blame you , lets be honest, it involves being less clean than normal, sleeping in an uncomfy bed and risking food poisoning from cooking in unsanitary conditions- don't know why it's loved so much?? Loving the EPP, looking forward to seeing the second one finished, but no pressure :o)

  10. Your EPP is fabulous! Love your Triangle City cushion and am really curious to see your finished Spring Carnival. I've never been camping but can't imagine enjoying it. I do like a nice comfy bed to sleep in.

  13. Your epp cushion is perfect - I'm in love with the binding - really sets it off. We went to something similar to new wine last year but it was only a day event I think one where you can camp sounds great. Even better if you can camp in your own bed!

  14. Hahaha we are going camping ten minutes from home in our summer too. If I get too sandy I'm going home for a shower and if its too hot for sleeping (highly likely in Australia in January) I'm coming home too!

  15. I am right there with you with the camping - my other half has tried to entice me into a tent under the guise of "glamping" but it's still a tent! You can't beat your own bed!

Absolutely LOVE your triangle city pillow - so impressed you have it all made up in less than a month! It's perfect. And your Bee quilt in your previous post is one of my favourite Bee quilts ever ever in history - so cheery and summery. Along with your super tote I think 2013 has been an amazing stitchy year for you Di!

  16. Why any sane individual gives up a bed in four walls for hard earth in a nylon zippy cocoon is beyond me. Don't tell my men I said that, they adore it!

Your triangle city cushion is fabulous. You have converted me to the pattern which I wasn't really sure about before.

I do not blame you for not camping. I never went to a festival when i was young as I couldn't bear the thought of the toilets!
